Within the individualized training programs our strength coaches take into consideration common injuries and individual goals in the initial intake of your first appointment to ensure you achieve your goals!

Overall, our personal strength and conditioning programs will be geared towards supporting your sport performance and growth. There are multiple program packages that range from 1:1 on training to team training (6+) that are personalized for all levels and ages.

Injury Mitigation

Balanced training program – incorporating lifts into your weekly routine at least 2 times per week is recommended for general population never mind just athletic ones who are partaking in far more than the recommended amount of physical activity.

There are many injuries that are common to basketball players. You may have dealt with one or some of these yourself already! Some of the most common acute injuries include ankle sprains, ACL and/or MCL tears while more common chronic or overuse injuries include patellofemoral pain syndrome (runner’s knee), patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee) as well as stress fractures (usually involving the foot). Controlling your volume of training and ensuring you are loading in a progressive fashion are ways to mitigate these.

Although not every injury can be prevented and there are many factors that contribute to sustaining either an acute or chronic injury, we can do our best to help ensure you have the best shot at preventing and recovering from them by building strength and fostering proper movement mechanics while improving your performance!

Enhanced Performance

Focusing our programs on the development of strength and power with proper movement execution, help you perform your best by enhancing.

Linear speed for getting up and down the court.

Vertical jump for better rebounding, blocking as well as shooting.

Agility for faster change of direction for both response to defenders, and getting around other defenders while on offence.

Due to the physical nature of the game, size and strength also prove to be important aspects that can enhance your performance by keeping defenders at bay and owning your space on the court.

Enhanced Body Awareness and Movement Technique

As an athlete, being aware of where your body is in space and moving with intention, is extremely important. Becoming aware of your body and your movement technique is a skill – and like any skill – needs to be practiced to improve. Enhancing your movement technique and body awareness can help you learn to be more intentional with your movement, focused on the task at hand, help mitigate injury as well as improve performance. Moving more effectively so that you can use your body’s strength and power to the best of your abilities!

Enhanced Confidence

Learning new physical skills such as strength training can help increase overall confidence which can also lead to performance enhancement (bonus)! When we focus our goals on measures such as strength, power and speed – we can focus our attention on what our bodies are capable of rather than what they look like. This can lead to healthier relationships with exercise and our own bodies. In general seeing ourselves reach goals and becoming better at a skill, can help us enhance self-efficacy (the belief that you can accomplish a given task or goal) and feel a sense of accomplishment which can carry over to far more than just the court!

I’ve been doing strength training with Shauna after an injury — this is my first time working with a strength coach and I’m beyond blown away. Her knowledge and expertise are so valuable, and her approach runs totally counter to all of the toxic diet/fitness culture stuff I was afraid of encountering. I feel safe and strong and supported. Can’t recommend enough!!
