We'll start your appointment by asking some questions
Our clients seek physiotherapy for a variety of reasons such as pain, movement, performance, or longevity. Firstly, we want to know why you are here and to do that, we’ll ask some questions to learn more about your situation and personal goals.
Some questions we might ask:
- What brought you in today?
- If you were 100% what would you be doing right now?
- What are your performance or rehab goals?
- If you have pain, what makes it worse? What relieves it?
- How is your health, sleep, stress and activity?

Next up, a full-body assessment
Secondly, we’ll assess everything from your neck and trunk mobility to your squat pattern and balance. We look beyond the site of your injury so we can find the root cause of your pain. For example, if you’re coming in with shoulder pain, we’ll assess your neck mobility as this might uncover issues with the nerves that control your shoulder. Further, finding issues like this will help us find the root cause of your injury and help us bring you results that beat your pain for good.
With this in mind, if you want to learn more about the specific assessment techniques that we use, check follow us on instagram and keep an eye out for upcoming blog posts! This post gives more detail about a neck assessment like the one mentioned above.
If a movement is restricted, we'll assess further
Once we find out what is restricted, we want to know why. Some possible causes of a restricted movement include:
- Joint restrictions
- Soft tissue tension
- Stability limitations
- Strength limitations
- Motor control deficits
To find the specific cause of a restricted movement, we’ll continue to focus the assessments to isolate these different tissues and issues.
Once we find the root cause of your pain from our initial assessment, we'll do some hands on treatment.
Our physiotherapists have a variety of treatment techniques in their tool belts. Depending on the nature of your injury and the findings from our previous assessments, you can expect to receive some of the following treatments:
- IMS dry needling
- Manual therapy
- Joint mobilizations
- Shockwave therapy
- Many others!
To continue making gains, we'll recommend some home treatments
Home exercises can help you continue to make gains outside the walls of our clinic. In particular, some exercises help to reinforce manual treatments and mobility gains from your visit. While, others help you re-load your body and develop the stability, strength and power needed to reach your goals. Undoubtedly, our physiotherapists will coach you through each movement so you feel confident to do them on your own with good form.
The last step in our physiotherapy initial assessment is to create a personalized treatment plan.
To conclude your appointment, we’ll use what we learned from our assessment to create a personalized treatment so you can work towards your goals over time. Secondly, we’ll work with you to schedule return visits and potential collaborations with our team of chiropractors, RMT massage therapists, and kinesiologists. In fact, we also have a direct network of health professionals in the community that we can refer to so you can reach your goals ASAP!
