How Our Unique Vancouver Kinesiology / Strength Coaching Services Will Help You Get Your Goals on Track

Improving your technique, moving pain free with active rehabilitation, or leading a healthy lifestyle? Starting with our intake form and continuing through your program- we want to know WHY you’re here. What brings you in? What do you want to get out of strength and conditioning, and why does this matter?

Our consults and initial visits normally begin with the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). This rapid head-to-toe assessment helps us understand how the whole body and local areas affect your issue. Detailed assessment guides effective program development designed to best meet your performance goals.

Our kinesiologists / strength coaches aim to educate clients in order to safely and effectively perform all exercises within an individualized program. Exercise program design is based upon current standards of practice backed up by current research and tried-and-true methods.

Our coaches bring considerable experience, studies and mentorships in strength training, mobility and a wide range of sports. This doesn’t mean we only work with Olympic hopefuls, Ironman triathletes and yoga gurus. We also offer active rehabilitation services for those who just want to move pain-free. Our goal is to help anyone who is ready to move beyond pain and into performance – however that is defined for your lifestyle.

Speaking of the SFMA head to toe assessment, our physios, chiros, massage therapists, and kinesiologists have ALL studied to ensure we can see the body through the same lens. With this ability, we then apply our unique individual skills to help you reach your goals. In time, clinicians learn to understand one another’s strengths and the client wins.

FAQ - things people ask us about Kinesiology / Strength Coaching

Kinesiology is the science of human movement and it’s impact on health, society, and qualify of life. It is a very broad field of study that includes:

  • Physiology
  • Biomechanics
  • Psychology
  • Motor Learning
  • Sociology, and many more!

Of course! Whether you’re an elite athlete or have never participated in organized physical activity, we can train you! All you need is a positive mindset and a goal to strive for.

It depends. What are your goals? How much time do you have available to work with a strength coach? What’s your training status (how long have you been training for)?

We can’t say for certain what your program design will look like, but what we can tell is this: our programs are individually tailored to best meet your needs and resources. The only way to know for sure is to book an initial consultation and we’ll work together on a program that works best for you!

Kinesiologists / strength coaches and personal trainers may seem very similar. They both are trained to help clients work towards their fitness goals through individualized  exercise programs. Sometimes the names are even used interchangeably, but there are some key differences:

  • Scope of Practice: Personal trainers are trained to mostly work with healthy, uninjured clients Practicing kinesiologists have in-depth knowledge of exercise prescription and active rehabilitation that can be applied to both healthy and clinical populations.
  • Education: Kinesiologists undergo a 4 year bachelor’s degree at an accredited university, with specific core content and are required to continue their education on a yearly basis. Personal trainers are required to complete a certificate that can be completed in as little as 6 months (or less).

What are your goals? What would you doing if you are at 100%? These are just a few questions we ask our clients when they first come to see one of our practitioners. You can also ask yourself this when deciding who to book with. If you are pain-free and your aim is to improve your fitness or exercise technique, you could start with a strength coach. If you’ve got some aches and pains or a persistent injury, other disciplines may be better to start.

We strive to provide  seamlessly integrated collaborative treatment. Our clinicians work together on a regular basis to understand what each us bring to the table. If you start in one discipline, you may be referred to another. At the end of the day, we want to provide you with a plan of care to best meet your needs.
