Jumpstart your Career in Injury Management.

Lift Clinic’s Athlete Health Liaison (AHL) Program is your ticket to a summer focused on learning and practical skill development in an on-field and clinical setting. During the summer months, we’ve created a blended volunteer and mentorship position offering clinical shadowing and on-field experience. AHLs will be paired with a youth ultimate team from Prime Ultimate Club to act as the first point of contact for performance and injury management. This is a one-of-a-kind experience for you to put your learning to use and develop skills while giving back to the community through youth sports.

Application Requirements:

  • 10/10 committed to a career in their field of study
  • Currently enrolled in kinesiology, physio, chiro, RMT, sport orthopaedic/medicine program
  • Commitment to workshops beginning in May and on-field work on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for 2-3 hours/day from June 1 – August 10, 2024. Volunteer hours will total a minimum of 100 hours during this 4-month period
  • Demonstrated past experience in client-oriented positions such as student trainer, undergraduate strength and conditioning assistant, personal training and/or a multi-year commitment to the AHL program
  • Able to clearly articulate their goals in relation to the field and within this practicum

A One of a Kind Experience. Here's what to expect:

  1. Training workshops: Attend 2 pre-season training workshops in May to learn how to perform athletic taping, provide sport injury assessments, and lead pre-game warm-ups.
  2. On-field work: After we’ve equipped you with the skills to work in the field, you’ll be paired with a high school ultimate frisbee team from Prime Ultimate Club. On-field work will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for 2-3 hrs/day from the start of June until August 1.
  3. When working on-field with athletes, you will apply your skills to:
    1. Run warmups using the RAMP protocol
    2. Act as first point of contact to assist high school athletes in injury management and first-aid
    3. Refer athletes to professional care
  4. Additional opportunities: Attend weekly in-clinic shadowing and clinician mentorship from our team of physiotherapists, chiropractors, RMTs, and strength coaches. Concurrent mentorship programs such as our Student Strength and Conditioning Coaching  (SSCC) Program are also available.

Documentation Requirements:

For the safety and protection of all clients/athletes we serve, students are required to complete the following prior to commencing these positions: 

  • Standard First Aid and CPR-AED Certification
  • CATT online Concussion Certification (free)
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check
